Nottingham Neurodisability Service Hucknall
Our centre is made up of three units designed to treat adults from 18 to 65 years, who are suffering from neurodisabilities or brain injury and require continuing or short term care: Fernwood Unit - a 19 bed brain injury unit for patients with high dependency needs (including mechanically ventilated patients); Millwood Unit - a 20 bed brain injury unit for patients with challenging behaviour; Rosewood Unit - a 32 bed neurodisability unit.
We have experience of dealing with a variety of disabilities including: head injuries, brain trauma, spinal injuries, multiple sclerosis, neurological disorders, Parkinson's disease, motor neurone disease and Huntingdon's disease. Whatever the need, care is delivered with patience, kindness and understanding.
Treatment
We offer assessment and rehabilitation for moderate to severely brain injured people who may be going through a temporary phase of discipline behaviour, or have long- term intractable behavioural or cognitive disabilities.
Initially each patient undergoes a thorough assessment from the skilled inter- disciplinary team, which provides an appropriate platform for rehabilitation. The next stage is to draw up a rehabilitation programme tailored to individual needs, which includes formal therapy sessions, social skills retraining, functional skills retraining and other leisure orientated sessions to enhance independence and quality of life.
Our Team
Our specialists work as part of an interdisciplinary team made up of a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist, a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine and therapists, who work closely with nursing staff, activity coordinators and assistant psychologists, with the aim of achieving patients' goals and objectives.
Referral Procedure
We welcome referrals to the centre and believe that working in partnership with the local team right from the point of assessment ensures effective discharge planning and implementation of appropriate longer-term treatment.
