Meadowbrook Neurodisability Suite

Meadowbrook Neurodisability Suite

Meadowbrook Neurodisability Suite is situated in a semi-rural location on the border of England and Wales and on the main road into Shrewsbury. It is a few miles from the ancient market town of Oswestry, steeped in history and offering many attractions, independent shops and amenities.

The Suite specialises in meeting the needs of adults with complex neurological conditions who have low, medium or high nursing dependency needs. We tailor our programmes specifically to meet the needs of each individual to enable them to achieve their personal goals, reduce disability and improve their quality of life.

Whatever the need, care is delivered with patience, kindness and understanding. We recognise the benefits to clients of family involvement and we welcome and encourage relatives and friends to be part of the life of the Suite.

Multi Disciplinary Team

Each aspect of care is discussed and agreed with the team members. We also work closely with specialist members of community based multidisciplinary teams to ensure that clients access relevant agencies and treatment programmes, appropriate to their changing healthcare needs.

The support for the service includes input from specialists such as the community occupational therapist, tissue viability nurse, Huntington's nurse, motor neurone nurse, multiple sclerosis nurse, speech and language therapist and dietitian, who visit when required.

Both permanent and respite clients benefit from treatment by our on-site senior physiotherapist and assistant.

Our dedicated activities co-ordinators arrange outings to the cinema and theatre, and activities such as swimming and computing courses. We also encourage and help residents with planning holidays. We employ in-house caterers to prepare appetising and nourishing meals with varied menus, accommodating all dietary needs.

The Suite's medical support is led by a single GP practice that provides weekly appointments as well as emergency cover, and is supported by other local GP practices. Clients are also able to access community resources such as dentists, opticians and chiropodists as appropriate.

Our Programme

Our manager and staff endeavour to ensure that each client's individual needs are met. We provide qualified nursing care 24 hours a day. Our registered nurses have the role of key workers, each leading a team of staff providing care, support and encouragement for a small group of clients and planning their care in consultation with that individual, their relatives and their doctor. Programmes and care plans are reviewed regularly by our team and at meetings with clients, relatives, referrers and funders.

Our structured programmes of recreational activities and daily living skills are tailored to meet the individual needs and choices of our clients, and are designed to enable each client to achieve their full potential. Clients are encouraged and assisted to visit local facilities and make wide use of the public services available.
