Huntercombe House - Stockton

Huntercombe House - Stockton

Huntercombe House is a specialised facility providing dedicated short and long term assessment and therapeutic interventions for children and adolescents between the ages of 10 to 18 years, whose behaviour challenges other services and environments.

The young people we treat have a range of learning disabilities, including autistic spectrum disorders, ADHD and multiple learning disabilities. We believe that identifying the condition and providing the highest standard of educational and therapeutic care as early as possible is vital in helping children to achieve their potential and progress academically. For this reason, we ensure a low staff to patient ratio in a positive and safe setting appropriate to young people's needs.

Our centre consists of three discrete and comfortable units which accommodate small groups of children, including two single person units ideal for transitional care for older adolescents.

All rooms are en-suite and each of the separate units has its own lounge, dining and kitchen area, as well as bath and shower facilities.

A four bedded respite care/short break unit has been opened within Huntercombe House - Stockton. It is one of three discrete units established to care for young people with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour. The unit offers support to young people and their families and length of stay will be determined on need.

This service supports carers in the task of caring for young people with challenging behaviour, giving them the chance to recharge their batteries.

A sensory room, soft play room, games room and enclosed garden are on-site. Our centre has two classrooms available. A SLA is in place with a local special needs school to maintain close links.

Referral Procedure

Please see the Referral Form in the Further Information panel on the right hand side.

Services

A holistic package of care is developed around the individually assessed needs of each child. This programme fits into the young person' overall multi-agency plan, to assist them to achieve their maximum potential and independence. Behavioural principles are developed in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team for each young person. These will vary according to the needs of the individual, but will include a variety of behavioural modification techniques. In all cases, a full risk assessment will be completed before plans are agreed.
