Acquired Brain Injury and Neurodisabilities

The Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Neurodisability service at The Huntercombe Group

Huntercombe's specialist centres provide tailored, individual rehabilitation programmes for people with acquired brain injury and neurodisability. Our goal oriented programme is targeted at reducing disability and improving social and emotional aspects to enhance the prospects for a more fulfilling life, or a return to independent living.

Whether the brain injury is acquired or traumatic, caused by a stroke, accident, haemorrhage or spinal injuries, the emotional, social, intellectual and behavioural consequences, and the cognitive or behavioural disabilities, can be complex and difficult to manage.

Services

The Acquired Brain Injury and Neurodisability Services within the Group cover complex neurological problems including acquired brain injury, challenging behaviours, spinal injury, neurodisabilities and the rehabilitation of these conditions.

We are able to admit detained patients.

Upon arrival, each patient is comprehensively assessed by our skilled multi-disciplinary team who can then develop an appropriate rehabilitation programme tailored to their needs. This multifaceted programme includes formal therapy sessions, social skills retraining, functional skills retraining and other leisure oriented sessions to reduce disability and build independence.

At every stage, we are mindful of the wishes and rights of our patients; providing an environment that is caring, safe, comfortable, respects privacy and dignity, and fosters a positive attitude to recovery and independence. Through a goal-directed programme, we help patients to set, track and achieve recovery milestones.

Treatment also includes preparation for returning to independent living, including practising day to day life skills and transitional arrangements to ease reintegration into the community.

Our Team

Patients are under the care of a highly qualified and experienced interdisciplinary team which would consist of a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist, Consultant Neuropsychologist and therapists who work alongside nursing staff and rehabilitation assistants to minimise disabilities.
