Case Study 2 - Brain Injury Rehabilitation
Situation:

In 1998 my father had a brain injury due to a road traffic accident. After being discharged from hospital my father returned home under the care of myself. However I realised in time that I could no longer provide him with the care he needed. Then I learned of Nottingham Neurodisability Service and the fact that they could support and accommodate him.
Outcome:
"The overall accumulation of a friendly caring environment, ensures that myself and my father now have a quality of life and peace of mind"
Due to a number of facts, my father and myself now have an improved quality of life:
- Professional nursing staff care for my father, administering his correct medication.
- Competent caring staff are able to address his hygiene needs.
- The centre ensures they monitor all food and fluids consumed by my father.
- There is one to one care for daily activities.
- They fully understand his human rights
- He has freedom to go accompanied on outside journeys.
- The centre gives him privacy, and even the freedom to smoke!
In addition there are:
- Regular medication reviews.
- Consultation with a Psychologist.
- Regular care plan reviews.
The overall accumulation of a friendly caring environment, ensures that myself and my father now have a quality of life and peace of mind.
The photograph shown is of a model, but the case summarised here was a real one, dealt with at a brain injury unit within The Huntercombe Group during 2004
