Mental Health

Within our mental health hospitals we provide treatment for young people and adults experiencing psychiatric, psychological and emotional problems, including the severely ill who require high dependency or intensive care and may be at risk of suicidal behaviour, serious self-harm, violence or running away. We accept patients detained under the Mental Health Act.

Due to the calibre, dedication and experience of our team, we have an excellent reputation in this highly specialist area. We take a multi-disciplinary approach, bringing together the wide-ranging expertise of psychiatrists, psychologists, specific therapists, educators, nurses and care staff and we offer a high staff to patient ratio.

Individually tailored treatment takes place in a positive and safe environment which nurtures hope and recovery and helps patients take control of their lives.

Our mental health services can be broadly divided into the following key service areas:

  • Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS)
  • Eating Disorders
  • Adult Mental Health including Forensic Mental Health

Our well-established child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) are located within our hospitals in Maidenhead and Stafford with a new service now available at our existing hospital in Edinburgh. We provide assessment and care for young people with short-term mental distress or diagnosed mental illness. We accept patients detained under the mental health acts of England and Scotland.

We offer assessment and treatment for adolescents and young adults with severe and life threatening eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and related disorders at our hospitals in Edinburgh, Maidenhead and Stafford. We also provide a shorter-stay eating disorder service based at Huntercombe Hospital, Cotswold Spa in Broadway for patients requiring less intensive treatment to that provided in our other hospitals. Between our four hospitals we are able to offer treatment for eating disorders from the age of 11 upwards.

Each year we issue separate surveys to both our patients/ clients and to our referrers asking them what they think of the service we provide. All information is fed back to our clients about what we do well, what we could do better and how we aim to improve the service we provide. All our surveys are anonymous.
