The Huntercombe Hospital - Stafford launch new adolescent psychiatric assessment centre

The Huntercombe Hospital - Stafford has launched a new assessment service. The new centre will offer in depth psychiatric evaluation for voluntary patients between the ages of 13 and 18 with a range of mental health and behavioural problems.

Young people referred to the centre will be assessed over a six to eight week period to determine whether they would benefit from further treatment in the community or as an inpatient.
Dr Gordon Bates, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, has been appointed to head the service. Gordon is well known within Child and Adolescent Mental Health both in the West Midlands and nationally as a regular speaker on neurodevelopmental topics such as ADHD, Tourette's Syndrome and Autism. He continues to be involved in research and has authored several chapters in addition to many papers in peer-reviewed journals. He teaches undergraduates and postgraduates as a Senior Clinical lecturer with the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Birmingham.

Dr Bates said; "I am looking forward to working at The Huntercombe Hospital - Stafford and developing the adolescent assessment unit with the excellent multidisciplinary team here. I particularly enjoy the challenge of inpatient work as the results can be so rewarding".
