Huntercombe Hospital clients express themselves at art exhibition and challenge perceptions of mental health discrimination

In honour of World Mental Health Day clients from The Huntercombe Hospital Roehampton, part of the Huntercombe Group, will tomorrow be exhibiting their personal art-work based on the theme of 'recovery'.  The artists have a history of mental health problems and their personal art will showcase the creativity of those with complex mental health issues, while supporting the process of helping end mental health discrimination.

The exhibition is a joint project between Huntercombe Hospital and the renowned art collection at the Bethlem Gallery and will also show works of art from a selection of professional artists alongside that of the Huntercombe Hospital clients.

Jon Norris, Social Work Lead at Huntercombe Hospital Roehampton said, "This exhibition supports our clients and their path to recovery, as well as recognising World Mental Health Day.

"There is concern about the stigma and discrimination which effects people with mental health problems at many levels. This event is designed to give the public a more positive perception of people with these issues and is indirectly related to the Time to Change Campaign. Members of the public, who may associate mental disorder with violence or disruption, may be surprised to see the quality of some of the work on show."

The Huntercombe  hospital  in Roehampton is a respected centre for treating complex adult mental health issues and neuropsychiatric conditions.

The art exhibition will be held at Roehampton Library from Monday 5th to Saturday 10th October. For media enquiries and photo opportunities please contact Anthony D'Alton on 07727659142 or adalton@parys.com
