First National Conference for The Huntercombe Group

The Huntercombe Group, one of the UK's leading independent specialist healthcare providers, hosted its first national conference on Friday 18 September 2009 at the Institute of Physics in London.

Exploring how knowledge of neuroscience can improve clinical practice in the treatment of children and adolescents with psychiatric, psychological and emotional difficulties, the one-day conference covered a range of disciplines including neuro-imaging, neuro-ethics, neuropsychology, neuropharmacology and cognitive remediation therapy.

Chaired by Dr Ian Frampton, consultant clinical psychologist in paediatrics, the conference updated delegates on the latest treatments available for children and adolescents with severe mental health problems such as eating disorders, suicidal behaviour, self-harming behaviour, bipolar disorder, violence and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Delegates who attended included child and adolescent psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, solicitors, nurse specialists and consultant paediatricians. The event attracted overseas delegates from Canada and Australia.

Dr Frampton said: "The conference provided an excellent opportunity for colleagues in the field of neuroscience to come together and learn from each other how best to treat the children and adolescents we come into contact with in our individual workplaces."
